Quick start
Five minutes from a blank browser to your first dice roll in an active campaign.
Before you start
- You have read (or skimmed) How it works.
- Your browser supports modern web apps (any recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari).
- You have a character concept in mind โ even one sentence is enough.
Step 1 โ Open the app
From the website, click Start the App in the top navigation, or just go to
/app/. You will land on Welcome to RPG‑Meister.
Optional: install it. Most browsers offer Install or Add to Home Screen from their menu while you are on this page.
Step 2 โ Create your first character
- On the app home, click Create character.
- You land on Edit Player Character, with 50 points to spend.
- Fill in the panels you need: General info, Base stats, Calculated stats, Skills, Advantages, Disadvantages, Inventory. (Powers appears once you opt in.)
- When the sheet feels right, click Save Character in the bottom action bar.
Need a worked build? See the sample characters on this website.
Stop editing (no save) discards changes and returns you to the roster.
Step 3 โ Find your character in the roster
From the app menu, open Player Characters โ List. Your saved character appears in Player Character Roster. From here you can Edit, Delete, or Export (copies the character to your clipboard as JSON).
To bring in a character from your GM or another device, use Import (clipboard) below the roster table. Once you have heroes worth keeping, Export all backs up every character in one step โ paste the JSON somewhere safe outside the browser.
Step 4 โ Create a player campaign
- Open Player Characters on Campaign โ Player Campaigns.
- Click Add new player campaign at the bottom.
- Tick at least one character to bring along, then click Create Campaign.
- You land on Edit Player Campaign Party. Fill in the campaign name, GM name, and player name; add more characters if you have them.
A campaign here is your side of a tabletop game โ your party and your notes, not the GM's world.
Step 5 โ Activate and play
- Back on Player Campaigns, click the play (โถ) icon on your new campaign.
- You land on Player Game, with your party loaded.
- Pick a character using the tabs (desktop) or the character selector (mobile).
- Choose a roll category โ Encounter, Combat, Skills, Statistics, or Custom (and Powers if your character has a power pool) โ pick the specific roll, and tap to roll.
For what the dice mean and how to read the result, see Dice rolls.
Step 6 โ Share when your GM asks
On Player Campaigns, the Actions column is icon-only on mobile. The two sharing buttons are the rightmost pair in the row above.
-
Send to GM (paper-plane icon) โ sends your saved party JSON via the server exchange while your GM is receiving. Enter their 5-letter session code in the dialog. Requires network and the same RpgMeister website.
-
Export for GM (upload icon) โ copies party JSON to your clipboard. Paste into email, chat, or any other file transfer. Use when offline or live send is not available.
When your GM wants the party for their notes, open Player Campaigns and tap Send to GM (send icon) on the campaign row. Enter the 5-letter code your GM shows from Receive from players. You should see a success snackbar when the handoff lands.
If live send isn't available (offline, different website, or an expired code), use Export for GM instead โ the party is copied to your clipboard as JSON for you to paste into chat. Save the campaign first so the export matches your sheet.
